Edinburgh International supports the fact that respect for and protection of human rights is a core principle of policing in any democratic society.
In recognition of this, much work has been done over recent times to promote human rights as a basic value of Police Services around the world especially those emerging from conflict.
It is acknowledged that the human rights dimension should be integrated into every module of police training, Edinburgh International have developed, through its highly qualified and experienced staff, a range of training packages focusing on a human rights-based approach to policing.
“…the fundamental purpose of policing should be…the protection and vindication of the human rights of all... people want the police to protect their human rights from infringement by others, and to respect their human rights in the exercise of that duty…There should be no conflict between human rights and policing. Policing means protecting human rights.”
Patton Report September 1999
Edinburgh International have developed a number of Human rights and gender based sexual violence courses for countries emerging from conflict, these also take into consideration the added aspect of non state judicial systems.
We specialise in delivering these courses in consultation with national and international groups on Human Rights Legislation and International Humanitarian Law and the law of armed conflict.
